10TH ANNUAL 'BOO! RUN FOR LIFE' RACE SET FOR OCTOBER 4TH IN DC
Benefits Dean R. O'Neill Fund for Kidney Cancer Research at NIH
Bethesda, MD - Mar 22, 2015 The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health announced on March 22nd the 10th annual Boo! Run for Life 10K run and Tidal Basin walk. The event, organized by friends and family of Dean R. O'Neill, benefits the Foundation for NIH and the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund. The race will start at 8:00 A.M. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, in Washington, DC.
Proceeds from the race will promote renal cell (kidney) cancer research at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) by supporting the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fellowship. Kidney cancer is on the rise in the United States. Most common in male adults over the age of 40, the disease is considered by many as one of the more under-researched cancers. Over 50,000 people are diagnosed with kidney cancer each year, half of whom develop metastatic disease that is associated with an extremely poor outlook for recovery.
Through the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund, the Foundation for NIH works in partnership with the NHLBI to provide critical "person-power" by recruiting top-notch scientists to the National Institutes of Health to pursue novel and promising advanced kidney cancer treatments. The 10K run and Tidal Basin walk raises funds to help employ researchers to discover effective cures.
